International Barter (“we”, “us”) is preparing to open an online marketplace where sellers, makers and growers from around the world offer local, handmade and harvested goods directly to buyers. This policy explains what information we collect through our website, international-barter.com, and our waitlist, how we use it, and the choices you have. We have tried to write it in plain language.
Right now the website is a “coming soon” page. Nothing can be bought here, and we do not take payments or create accounts.
1. What we collect
- Waitlist details you send us. The waitlist form does not send anything by itself. It opens a ready-written email in your own email app. If you press send, we receive what is in that message: your name, where you live, whether you are a buyer or a maker, your craft (for makers), your preferred language, and your email address. We receive nothing unless you send the email.
- Messages you write to us. Anything you choose to tell us when you email us.
- Basic technical information. Our hosting provider, Netlify, automatically processes standard technical data such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested, and the date and time, in order to deliver the website and keep it secure. We do not use advertising trackers on this website.
- Your choices on this site. If you pick a language, your browser remembers it on your own device (local storage). It is not sent to us. We do not use advertising cookies.
- Visit counts. We use Netlify Analytics, which counts visits from our hosting provider’s own server records. It does not use cookies, does not place any tracking script on your device, and does not follow you from site to site. It shows us things like which pages were opened and roughly where visitors are located, in totals.
- Fonts. The website loads fonts from Google Fonts. This means your browser requests the font files from Google, so Google receives your IP address and basic browser details as a result.
2. How we use it
- To write to you about the launch of International Barter.
- For makers, to talk with you about joining and to review your application.
- To answer your questions and requests.
- To decide which countries and crafts to open first, using the waitlist as a general guide.
- To keep the website working and secure.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising.
3. Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run the website and handle email: website hosting (Netlify), our email provider, Google Fonts. They process information only to provide their services, under their own terms and privacy policies. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights and the safety of others.
4. How long we keep it
We keep waitlist messages until the marketplace has opened and we have invited you to take part, or until you ask us to delete them, whichever comes first. We review the list at least once a year and remove details we no longer need.
5. Your choices and rights
You can email us at any time to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, to remove you from the waitlist, or to delete it. Depending on where you live (for example the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California), you may have additional legal rights over your personal information, including the right to object to or restrict how we use it. We will respond within a reasonable time, and normally within 30 days.
6. Visitors from other countries
International Barter is operated from the United States. If you contact us from elsewhere, your information will be sent to and processed in the United States, and in other countries where our service providers operate.
7. Children
This website is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.
8. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the information we receive. Please keep in mind that email is not always encrypted and no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so avoid sending sensitive details such as payment information or government ID numbers.
9. The concept preview
The concept preview at international-barter.com/preview/ uses invented makers, reviews and orders to show how the product will work. It does not store or send what you click or type.
10. When we start selling
When the marketplace opens, we will begin collecting more information, such as account details, delivery addresses and payment details. Before that happens, we will update this policy and tell waitlist members what has changed.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the date at the top.
